  • They are one of the 7 Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) in Chhattisgarh.
  • They speak Madi, a local form of the Gondi language from the Dravidian family.
  • Their main deities include Budhadeva, Thakur Dev, Budhimai, and Lingopen.
  • They worship nature, such as the Sun, Moon, rivers, mountains, and Earth.
  • Their major festivals are Pola, Kakasar, and Pandum, and they enjoy dances like Kaksar, Gedi, and Rilo.
  • Their society is patriarchal, follows clan (gotra) divisions, and is guided by a traditional panchayat led by a Manjhi (chief).
