  • Bharat NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) 2.0 is a revised vehicle safety rating programme for cars sold in India.
  • It was launched by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to update the 2023 Bharat NCAP guidelines.
  • Testing and certification are done by the Central Institute of Road Transport (CIRT), Pune.
  • The programme evaluates crashworthiness, accident-avoidance technologies, and pedestrian/vulnerable road user safety.
  • Five assessment verticals include Safe Driving, Accident Avoidance, Crash Protection, Vulnerable Road User Protection, and Post-Crash Safety.
  • The scheme aims to improve pedestrian safety and help India reduce road fatalities by 50% by 2030.
