Child Malnutrition in India

  • Government data shows 33.54% of children under five are stunted in India.
  • Measurements were taken from over 6.44 crore children using the Poshan Tracker (real-time nutrition monitoring system).
  • NFHS-5 (National Family Health Survey-5, 2019–21) had earlier reported stunting at 35.5% and underweight at 32.1%.
  • Poshan Tracker was launched in March 2021 to monitor stunting, wasting, and underweight cases.
  • Mission Poshan 2.0 includes Anganwadi Services and Poshan Abhiyaan for improving nutrition delivery.
