  • The National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Ltd (NCDEX) signed a pact with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to launch India’s first weather derivatives.
  • The agreement aims to help manage climate-related risks using market-based instruments.
  • Weather derivatives will be based on rainfall and other weather data from IMD’s historical and real-time datasets.
  • It seeks to build a climate-resilient rural economy and reduce income volatility.
