International Migration Outlook 2025

  • The International Migration Outlook 2025 was released by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
  • Permanent migration to OECD countries declined by 4% in 2024 to 6.2 million but remained 15% above 2019 levels.
  • Family reunification remained the main reason for migration, while labour migration fell by 21% and humanitarian migration rose by 23%.
  • The number of asylum applications reached a record 3 million in 2024, with more than half filed in the United States.
  • Asia remained the leading source of migrant health professionals, with India, China, the Philippines, and Germany as top contributors.
  • India emerged as the top origin country for new migrants to OECD nations in 2023, with nearly 600,000 Indians migrating.
  • It is an 8% rise from the previous year.
  • India was also among the top countries of origin for asylum seekers in OECD nations in 2024.
