- The Union Cabinet has approved the Nutrient Based Subsidy (NBS) rates for Phosphatic and Potassic (P&K) fertilizers for Rabi 2025–26.
- The NBS scheme was launched on 1 April 2010 to replace the earlier product-based subsidy system for non-urea fertilizers.
- It is administered by the Department of Fertilizers under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers.
- The scheme provides a fixed subsidy per kilogram of nutrients, including Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), Potassium (K), and Sulfur (S).
- Fertilizer companies can fix Maximum Retail Prices (MRPs) within reasonable limits, while urea remains under statutory price control.
- The scheme covers 28 grades of P&K fertilizers, including Di-Ammonium Phosphate (DAP) and NPKS grades.
