‘City of Gastronomy’ - Lucknow

  • On the occasion of World Cities Day, the 43rd Session of the UNESCO General Conference held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan.
  • UNESCO declared Lucknow as a ‘Creative City of Gastronomy’ at the event
  • The global recognition celebrates the city’s centuries-old Awadhi cuisine, living food traditions, and inclusive cultural heritage.
  • This recognition will promote sustainable tourism, preserve traditional recipes, and support local artisans and chefs, aligning with India’s efforts to showcase its soft power through culture and cuisine.
  • With Lucknow’s inclusion in 2025, the total rises to nine Indian cities in the network.
  • Lucknow earned its place among the 70 Creative Cities of Gastronomy worldwide, joining the likes of Hyderabad, Al-Madinah Al-Munawwarah (Saudi Arabia), Kelowna (Canada), Quanzhou (China), and Zaragoza (Spain).
