- Vietnam celebrated the 50th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War and said it was a “victory of faith”.
- The anniversary commemorates the first act of the country’s reunification on April 30, 1975.
- On this day, the Communist-run North Vietnam seized Saigon, the capital of the U.S.-backed South and renamed Ho Chi Minh City.
- Vietnam and the United States had normalised diplomatic relations in 1995 and deepened ties in 2023.
