The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) completed 100 years on 1 October 2026, marking its centenary since establishment in 1926.
The first Public Service Commission was established on 1 October 1926, with Sir Ross Barker as its Chairman.
The Government of India Act, 1935 reorganised it as the Federal Public Service Commission (FPSC).
The Constitution of India (1950) gave UPSC constitutional status under Articles 315–323, with Article 320 defining its major functions.
UPSC conducts the Civil Services Examination (CSE) for services including the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Police Service (IPS) and Indian Forest Service (IFoS).
