- Government Stanley Medical College Hospital (SMCH) in Chennai has completed 1,006 kidney transplants.
- The first renal transplant using a living donor was performed in April 1986 at SMCH.
- Out of the total, 837 transplants were from live related donors and 169 from deceased donors.
