125th death anniversary of Birsa Munda – June 09

  • The Tribal leader and the freedom fighter Bhagwan Birsa Munda’s 125th death anniversary, also known as ‘Balidan Diwas’ observed recently.
  • He was born on November 15, 1875, in Ulihatu village – now in Jharkhand.
  • His birth anniversary is observed as Janjatiya Gaurav Divas (Tribal Pride Day).
  • Birsa Munda is best known for leading the Ulgulan, which means “The Great Tumult” or rebellion, in the late 1800s.
  • He is known as ‘Dharti Aaba’ or the ‘Father of the Earth’ by tribal communities.
  • He was only 25 years old when he passed away on June 9, 1900, while in Ranchi Jail.
