  • CP Radhakrishnan was elected as the 15th Vice President of India on September 09.
  • He defeated the opposition INDIA bloc’s candidate, Justice B. Sudershan Reddy, by securing 452 first preference votes.
  • The Vice President’s post has been vacant since July 21 after Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned due to health reasons.
  • He served as Governor of Maharashtra from July 2024 and previously held governorships of Jharkhand, Telangana (additional charge), and Puducherry (additional charge).
  • Radhakrishnan was a two-time MP from Coimbatore and began his political career with the RSS and Bharatiya Jana Sangh.
  • He served as the BJP’s Tamil Nadu state president and chaired the Parliamentary Standing Committee.
  • From 2016 to 2020, he chaired the Coir Board under the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSME).
  • Between 2020 and 2022, he was the BJP’s in-charge for Kerala and led international delegations to Asia, Europe, and North America.
