- The report covers the 5 years from April 1, 2026, to March 31, 2031.
- The Union Cabinet approved the terms of reference for the 16th Finance Commission on November 29, 2024.
- The Commission was expected to submit its report by October 31, 2025, as per the approved schedule.
- The Commission was also tasked with suggesting principles for grants-in-aid and measures to strengthen financial resources for panchayats and municipalities.
