- New additions to UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites have been announced for 2025 – with 26 properties.
- Of 32 nominations this year, 21 cultural, four natural and one mixed property were granted World Heritage status.
- Unesco’s World Heritage Committee met for its 47th meeting in July 2025 in Paris, France.
- The UNESCO World Heritage Convention was established in 1972.
- By 2025, India will proudly have 44 World Heritage Sites.
- It includes 35 cultural, 7 natural and 1 mixed.
- Maratha Military Landscapes was the 44th one.
- As of July 2025, a total of 1,248 World Heritage Sites exist across 170 countries
- With 61 selected areas, Italy is the country with the most sites, followed by China with 60 and Germany with 55, and France with 54.
- Only one UN member state, Liechtenstein, has not ratified the World Heritage Convention.
- With a total of 44 World Heritage Sites, India now ranks 6th globally and 2nd in Asia-Pacific, just behind China.
