50 Years of Bonded Labour System Abolition Act

India marked 50 years of the Bonded Labour System (Abolition) Act (BLSA), 1976, which abolished bonded labour.
The Act declared bonded labour illegal, cancelled bonded debts, and ordered the release of bonded labourers.
District Magistrates and Vigilance Committees are responsible for identifying, releasing, and rehabilitating bonded labourers.
The law provides rehabilitation support such as financial assistance, land, housing, and livelihood programmes.
Articles 21, 23, and 24 of the Constitution of India protect people from forced labour and exploitation.
Section 143 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, punishes trafficking and forced labour.
