- Justice Bhushan Ramakrishnan Gavai was sworn in as the Chief Justice of India (CJI).
- He is the first practising Buddhist to be CJI and only the 2nd judge from the Scheduled Castes to ascend to this office.
- He will serve as the Chief Justice until his retirement on November 23, 2025.
- Justice Gavai is the son of R S Gavai, a noted politician, who was the Governor of multiple states.
