- The Unified Payments Interface (UPI) has now become the world’s top real-time payment system with over 650 million daily transactions.
- UPI surpassed Visa’s 639 million daily transactions despite Visa operating in over 200 countries, while UPI is active in only 7 countries.
- UPI was launched in 2016 as an instant inter-bank payment system for mobile platforms developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).
- The UPI processes over 18 billion transactions monthly and dominates India’s electronic retail payments.
