- The Border Roads Organisation (BRO) was established in 1960.
- It started with two projects, Project Tusker (now Vartak) in the East and Project Beacon in North India.
- It operates under the Ministry of Defence.
- In the last four years, BRO has completed 456 infrastructure projects with a total expenditure of Rs 13,743 crore.
