- The 7th Waterbird Census at Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve recorded the first-ever sighting of the smew (Mergellus albellus) in the park.
- The census recorded over 1,05,000 waterbirds during the survey.
- The count was conducted across the Kaziranga–Laokhowa–Burhachapori floodplain complex.
- The survey reaffirmed Kaziranga as an important site on the Central Asian Flyway for migratory birds.
