Tamil Nadu will add 950 MBBS seats for the 2026–27 academic year.
It was increasing the total seats in the State to 13,999 across 78 medical colleges.
The State now has the third-highest number of MBBS seats in India after Karnataka (15,395) and Uttar Pradesh (14,000).
The additional seats were approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC) across 13 medical colleges (3 government and 10 private).
The total MBBS seats in Tamil Nadu’s 36 government medical colleges have increased to 5,200.
The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) approved intake increases in government medical colleges at Namakkal, Tiruppur, and Tiruvallur from 100 to 150 seats each.
