- Tamil Nadu will add 950 MBBS seats for the 2026–27 academic year.
- It was increasing the total seats in the State to 13,999 across 78 medical colleges.
- The State now has the third-highest number of MBBS seats in India after Karnataka (15,395) and Uttar Pradesh (14,000).
- The additional seats were approved by the National Medical Commission (NMC) across 13 medical colleges (3 government and 10 private).
- The total MBBS seats in Tamil Nadu’s 36 government medical colleges have increased to 5,200.
- The Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) approved intake increases in government medical colleges at Namakkal, Tiruppur, and Tiruvallur from 100 to 150 seats each.
