  • Maharashtra is the first state in the country to grant agricultural status to livestock farming.
  • According to the decision, livestock-based activities will now be treated on par with agricultural activities.
  • It allows farmers access to electricity, local body tax, loan subsidies, and solar subsidies under agricultural terms.
  • India’s agricultural policies have traditionally focused on the crop production—grains, pulses, fruits, and vegetables.
  • But livestock farming has been treated as a separate or “allied” activity.
