  • In All India Judges Association v. Union of India, the Supreme Court directed seven States to raise the retirement age of district judges from 60 to 62 years.
  • The seven States are Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
  • The extension to 62 years is subject to a suitability assessment by the concerned High Court at age 60.
