- Google has announced its largest carbon removal deal with Brazilian startup Mombak.
- The project will restore degraded areas of the Amazon rainforest to absorb carbon dioxide.
- The deal will offset about 200,000 metric tons of carbon emissions, four times the 2024 pilot project.
- The company aims to balance emissions from energy-intensive data centres used for artificial intelligence (AI).
- Mombak is Google’s only provider of forestry carbon credits under this agreement.
