- Google has developed the Android Earthquake Alerts System for Android smart phones.
- It is designed to detect earthquakes using the accelerometers built into Android smartphones.
- But it was failed to deliver timely and effective warnings during the catastrophic Turkey earthquakes on 6 February 2023.
- Google sends two types of alerts to Android phones
- Be Aware Alerts: For lighter shaking (magnitude 4.5+).
- Take Action Alerts: For stronger shaking.
