Antarctic ice meltdown

July 19 , 2025 16 hrs 0 min 30 0
  • Antarctic summer sea ice has hit record lows for four consecutive years.
  • In March 2025, a 70% reduction in sea ice was recorded near Denman Glacier.
  • Over 50% of the Antarctica’s coastline was exposed in 2022 and 2023, doubling iceberg formation.
  • Entire colonies of emperor penguins faced breeding failures, and seals struggled to find stable ice platforms.
  • Shrinking sea ice is also disrupting resupply missions to Antarctic bases.
