- The largest tortoise in mainland Asia, has been reintroduced into the Zeliang Community Reserve in Nagaland.
- The Asian giant tortoise is listed as critically endangered in the IUCN Red List.
- They were almost wiped out in Nagaland more than a decade ago.
- They are known as “small elephants of the forest,” and aid in seed dispersal, forest regeneration, and cleaning the forest floor.
