- The 5th Audit Diwas was celebrated on 16 November 2025.
- It honours the role of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) as the guardian of India’s public money.
- India got its first Auditor General, Sir Edward Drummond, on November 16, 1860.
- India’s audit system started in 1858 with a department that checked East India Company accounts.
- The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) is a constitutional body under Article 148 and audits Union and State Government money.
- The 2025 theme was “Guardian of the Public Purse”.
- Two new audit groups, Central Revenue Audit (CRA) and Central Expenditure Audit (CEA), will begin on 1 January 2026.
