  • The government launched the Bal Vivah Mukt Bharat campaign to reduce child marriage by 10% by 2026 and eliminate it nationwide by 2030.
  • The initiative was started in November 2024 by the Ministry of Women and Child Development.
  • It focuses on eradicating child marriages, especially among girls and marginalized communities.
  • Balod district in Chhattisgarh became the country’s first child marriage-free district.
  • Zero child marriages reported across 436 Gram Panchayats and 9 urban local bodies for two consecutive years.
  • Surajpur district, also in Chhattisgarh, declared 75 village panchayats as Child Marriage-Free Panchayats in September 2025.
