The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying released the Basic Animal Husbandry Statistics (BAHS) 2025 on National Milk Day, November 26, 2025.
The report is based on the Integrated Sample Survey (ISS) 2024–25 and provides data on milk, eggs, meat, wool, livestock numbers, and related infrastructure.
India produced 247.87 million tonnes of milk, ranking 1st globally.
Also, the per capita availability of milk in India has increased from 319 gram (gm) per day (in 2014-15) to 485 gm per day (in 2024-25).
The top milk-producing states are Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra.
Egg production reached 149.11 billion, ranking 2nd globally.
Top 5 Egg Producing States: Andhra Pradesh with the share of 18.37%, followed by Tamil Nadu (15.63%), Telangana (12.98%), West Bengal (10.72%), and Karnataka (6.67%).
Meat production was 10.50 million tonnes, ranking 4th globally.
Top 5 Meat Producing States: West Bengal with the share of 12.46%followed by UP (12.20%), Maharashtra (11.57%), AP (10.84%) and Telangana (10.49%).
Wool production was 34.57 million kg.
Top 5 Wool Producing States: Rajasthan with the share of 47.85%, followed by Jammu & Kashmir (22.88%), Gujarat (6.22%), Maharashtra (4.75%) and Himachal Pradesh (4.30%).
The statistics support policy-making, research, and sustainable growth in India’s livestock and dairy sector.
