Bathukamma, a floral festival celebrated mainly by women, has been declared the official State Festival of Telangana.
It is observed for nine days during Durga Navratri, starting on Bhadrapada Amavasya (Mahalaya Amavasya) and ending on Saddula Bathukamma (Ashwayuja Ashtami), typically falling in September–October.
The festival follows Boddemma (marking the end of monsoon) and signals the beginning of Sharad Ruthu (autumn), blending seasonal change with traditional rituals.
