- The India Meteorological Department (IMD) under the Ministry of Earth Sciences adopted the Bharat Forecast System (BFS).
- It is an indigenously developed weather prediction model boasting a 6-kilometre resolution grid.
- It delivers the very high-accuracy forecasts at an ultra-fine spatial resolution of 6 kilometres.
- This places India ahead of global peers such as the United Kingdom, the United States, and the European Union.
- Their models typically operate at 9 to 14 km resolution.
- The improved forecasting system is also supported by the very high-performance computing systems ‘Arka’ and ‘Arunika’.
