  • Year-long national celebrations of Bhupen Hazarika’s 100th birth anniversary was launched on September 8, 2025, in Guwahati, Assam.
  • The RBI will release a 100 commemorative coin in his honour.
  • Hazarika was posthumously awarded the Bharat Ratna in 2019.
  • He is widely known as the ‘Bard of Brahmaputra’, for his deep connection with Assam’s riverine culture.
  • His iconic songs like Manuhe Manuhor Babe, Bistirno Parore, and Ganga Behti Ho Kyun carried themes of humanity, justice, and social unity.
  • A poet, lyricist, singer, composer, filmmaker, and politician, Hazarika’s works transcended regional boundaries and connected Assam to national and global audiences.
  • His memorial in Jalukbari has been renamed Bhupen Hazarika Samannay Tirtha.
  • A new museum will be built at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra to preserve his legacy.
  • A biography written by Anuradha Sarma Pujari will be translated into major Indian languages and distributed to libraries across the country.
  • The centenary celebrations will culminate on September 8, 2026, with a ceremonial event in New Delhi, attended by the President of India.
