  • IIT-M researchers develop eco-packaging from farm waste and fungi.
  • They created biodegradable packaging using agricultural and paper waste.
  • Fungal strains like Ganoderma lucidum and Pleurotus ostreatus were cultivated on waste substrates.
  • Ganoderma grown on cardboard showed compressive strength higher than EPS (expanded polystyrene).
  • India produces over 350 million tonnes of agri-waste annually, much of which remains unused.
  • The packaging material is a plastic-free, eco-friendly alternative to conventional foam.
