Border Trade via Nathu La Pass

India–China border trade through Nathu La Pass, Sikkim, resumed on 1 August 2026 after a six-year suspension due to the COVID-19 pandemic and border tensions.
Nathu La Pass is one of the designated border trading points between India and China and is part of the ancient Silk Route.
The seasonal trade will operate from Monday to Thursday until November under the existing bilateral trade protocol.
Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has implemented security arrangements, including the deployment of additional personnel and a women’s platoon for the first time.
Nathu La border trade was reopened in 2006 after being closed for over four decades following the 1962 India–China War.
