  • Government of India established the Bureau of Port Security (BoPS) under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways in 2026.
  • BoPS is created to oversee the security of ships, ports and related infrastructure in India.
  • It is modelled on the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS).
  • It will act as the apex authority for maritime security and cyber security.
  • Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is designated as the Recognised Security Organisation (RSO) for ports.
  • BoPS will focus on port security, ship security, intelligence sharing and cyber threat prevention.
  • It aims to strengthen surveillance, coordination and safety in India’s maritime sector.
