- Tulare Lake, once a vast freshwater body in California, has reappeared after 130 years due to heavy snowmelt.
- In the late 19th century, Tulare Lake spanned over 100 miles in length and 30 miles in width.
- It is the largest freshwater lake in west of the Mississippi River.
- However, in the late 1800s, the lake started to dry up.
- The settlers used the land for farming, so the irrigation canals and other systems were built to drain the lake.
- This drained Tulare Lake completely turned the area into farmland.
- This Lake earned the nickname "ghost lake" because it vanished over a century ago after its water was diverted for farming.
