- Saundala village in Maharashtra declared itself a caste-free village on 5 February 2026 through a Gram Sabha resolution.
- The resolution rejects caste-based discrimination and promotes equality under the motto “Aamchi jaat… manav” (My caste is humanity).
- All public places, such as schools, temples, water bodies, and cremation grounds, will provide equal access to all residents.
- Caste-based discrimination is prohibited under Article 15 of the Indian Constitution.
