- The day aims to honour the service, sacrifice, and contributions of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in maintaining India's internal security.
- CRPF was established in 1939 as the Crown Representatives Police and was renamed the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in 1949.
- It is India's largest Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) under the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).
- CRPF plays a key role in counter-insurgency, anti-Naxal operations, riot control, internal security, and protection of vital installations.
- More than 2,255 CRPF personnel have laid down their lives in service and have been honoured with gallantry awards such as the Ashok Chakra, Kirti Chakra, and Shaurya Chakra.
