- India has launched the nationwide rollout of chip-based electronic passports.
- It was launched as a pilot initiative in April 2024.
- These e-passports integrate advanced security features through embedded Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) chips and antennas.
- The chips will store the passport holder’s data - including biometric information.
- Countries such as Germany, United States and the United Kingdom already have the biometric-based travel documents.
