- The diarrhoea outbreak that has affected eight districts of Odisha has emerged as a grave concern for the state’s public health apparatus.
- Several clusters have also been found to be struck by the deadly Vibrio cholerae (cholera) bacterium.
- Odisha earlier saw a cholera outbreak in December 2023 and July - November 2022.
- Cholera is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae.
- It spreads through contaminated food and water.
