Cholera Outbreak in Odisha 2025

  • The diarrhoea outbreak that has affected eight districts of Odisha has emerged as a grave concern for the state’s public health apparatus.
  • Several clusters have also been found to be struck by the deadly Vibrio cholerae (cholera) bacterium.
  • Odisha earlier saw a cholera outbreak in December 2023 and July - November 2022.
  • Cholera is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Vibrio cholerae.
  • It spreads through contaminated food and water.
