Tamil Nadu Chief Minister will launch the expansion of the Chief Minister’s Breakfast Scheme to State-aided urban primary schools on August 26, 2025.
Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann will attend the launch as the chief guest.
The expansion will benefit approximately 3.05 lakh additional students across the State.
As of February 2025, about 17.53 lakh students in 34,987 schools have benefited from the programme.
The scheme began in 2022, initially for government-run primary schools and expanded progressively to include urban government and aided schools.
Hitherto, the programme was implemented in government-run primary schools across the State and State-aided primary schools located only in rural areas.
The Tamil Nadu government allocated ₹600.25 crore for the programme in 2025-26.
Evaluations show the scheme increased attendance, improved children’s health, reduced hospital admissions by 63.2%, and lowered serious illnesses by 70.6% in government primary schools.
