Coconut Root Wilt Disease is spreading rapidly in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, affecting lakhs of coconut palms.
It is a non-fatal disease caused by a phytoplasma (a phloem-limited pathogen) that weakens palms and reduces yield.
The disease spreads through sap-sucking insect vectors such as Stephanitis typica and Proutista moesta.
Key symptoms include weak, droopy leaves, yellowing from leaf tips, curling of leaflets, poor flowering, premature nut fall, and slow weakening of trees.
