  • Coconut Root Wilt Disease is spreading rapidly in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka, affecting lakhs of coconut palms.
  • It is a non-fatal disease caused by a phytoplasma (a phloem-limited pathogen) that weakens palms and reduces yield.
  • The disease spreads through sap-sucking insect vectors such as Stephanitis typica and Proutista moesta.
  • Key symptoms include weak, droopy leaves, yellowing from leaf tips, curling of leaflets, poor flowering, premature nut fall, and slow weakening of trees.
