- IIT Guwahati has developed a two-stage microalgae process to capture carbon dioxide (CO₂), produce biomass and generate bioenergy.
- The first stage uses 15% CO₂ for rapid microalgal growth, while the second uses 5% CO₂ with calcium and phosphorus.
- The process achieved 25.7% higher biomass production and 35.4% higher CO₂ fixation than conventional methods.
- It also recorded 1.86 times higher lipid productivity and 37.65% higher bioenergy efficiency.
- Calcium promoted self-flocculation, helping recover 98.46% of the microalgal biomass with low energy use.
