CO₂ Capture Process - IIT Guwahati

  • IIT Guwahati has developed a two-stage microalgae process to capture carbon dioxide (CO), produce biomass and generate bioenergy.
  • The first stage uses 15% CO for rapid microalgal growth, while the second uses 5% CO with calcium and phosphorus.
  • The process achieved 25.7% higher biomass production and 35.4% higher CO fixation than conventional methods.
  • It also recorded 1.86 times higher lipid productivity and 37.65% higher bioenergy efficiency.
  • Calcium promoted self-flocculation, helping recover 98.46% of the microalgal biomass with low energy use.
