The National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) released the ‘Crime in India 2023’ report showing sharp rises in caste-based crimes in metropolitan cities.
Jaipur reported a 35% increase in crimes against Scheduled Castes (SCs) from 361 in 2021 to 489 in 2023, and a 47% rise against Scheduled Tribes (STs) from 155 to 228.
Bengaluru recorded 285 crimes against SCs in 2023, up from 166 in 2021, and 15 crimes against STs, ranking fifth among metros.
Jaipur had the second-highest SC cases and the highest ST cases among metropolitan cities in 2023.
Lucknow recorded 517 crimes against SCs in 2023, a 93% rise since 2021.
Also, Jaipur (1,231), Lucknow (1,205), Kanpur (804), and Bengaluru (682) having the highest cumulative cases over three years.
