CRS 2024 Registration Report

The Civil Registration System (CRS) 2024 report shows that 99.1% of births and 99.4% of deaths were registered in India during 2024.
A total of 254.7 lakh births and 89.4 lakh deaths were registered in 2024, higher than the figures recorded in 2023.
India's sex ratio at birth was 917 females per 1,000 males; Arunachal Pradesh (1,050) recorded the highest and Nagaland (865) the lowest.
The report recorded 81,117 stillbirths in 2024, with about 69% occurring in urban areas.
Birth and death registration is mandatory under the Registration of Births and Deaths (RBD) Act, 1969, and the data supports demographic planning and public policy.
