CVC Annual Report 2025

The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) released its Annual Report 2025, highlighting over 7,200 corruption cases investigated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that remain pending trial.
The report is prepared and submitted by the CVC to the President of India under Section 14 of the Central Vigilance Commission Act, 2003.
The President causes the report to be laid before both Houses of Parliament.
The CVC functions under the Central Vigilance Commission Act, 2003, which gives it statutory status and defines its powers and functions.
The CVC exercises superintendence over the CBI in cases related to offences under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The CVC was established in 1964 on the recommendation of the Santhanam Committee and became a statutory body in 2003.
The CBI conviction rate increased from 69.14% in 2024 to 71.71% in 2025.
The CBI had 1,088 vacant posts against a sanctioned strength of 7,300.
Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 requires prior approval before investigating certain official decisions or recommendations of public servants.
