Decline of Left-Wing Extremism in 2025

  • The number of most affected districts by Left Wing Extremism (LWE) has reduced from 6 to 3, limited now to Bijapur, Sukma and Narayanpur in Chhattisgarh.
  • The total number of LWE affected districts has decreased from 18 to 11 across India.
  • In 2025, a record 312 LWE cadres were eliminated, including the General Secretary and 8 other senior leaders of the Communist Party of India (Maoist).
  • In 2013, 126 districts reported LWE violence, which declined to just 18 districts by March 2025.
  • The government aims to completely eradicate Left Wing Extremism by 31 March 2026.
