- Census 2027 will be India’s first fully digital census.
- Around 34 lakh enumerators will use their own smartphones to collect data.
- Dedicated mobile apps in English and regional languages will be used for data collection.
- Enumerators will upload data directly to a central server through the apps.
- This will be the first time census data is digitised at the enumerator level.
- The housing listing phase will run from April to September 2026.
- Population enumeration will begin in February 2027 across most of the country.
- In hilly regions like Ladakh and Himachal Pradesh, enumeration will occur in September 2026.
- All buildings will be geo-tagged using Digital Layout Mapping and GIS technology.
- A real-time monitoring website and a Rs 14,618.95 crore budget have been planned by the Registrar General of India.
