The Department of Animal Husbandry & Dairying launched the Livestock Insurance Portal in New Delhi.
The portal provides a single digital platform for policy issuance, claim processing, monitoring and reporting under the Livestock Insurance Scheme.
The scheme provides subsidised insurance for cattle, pigs and rabbits; small and marginal farmers pay 15% of the premium, while the Centre and states share the remaining 85%.
The initiative is part of the National Livestock Mission; the government is also examining Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) tagging for animal identification and claim verification.
In the latest five-year period, 60.8 lakh animals were insured, and claims worth ₹161.07 crore were released.
