Disaster risk in the Indian Himalayan Region

September 23 , 2025 16 hrs 0 min 22 0
  • The 2025 monsoon severely impacted Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Uttarakhand.
  • The Indian Himalayan Region is highly vulnerable due to active tectonics, seismicity, and fragile geology.
  • Climate variability has led to frequent cloudbursts, flash floods, and avalanches, as seen in Uttarakhand in 2013 and 2025.
  • Human-induced factors like road construction, hydro projects, and land-use change worsen slope instability and erosion.
